Italy isn’t just about the rolling hills of Tuscany, the imperial history of Rome or the fiery Mediterranean temperament of the south. People sometimes forget it is also about utterly stunning mountain scenery more in keeping with the "Sound of Music" peaks of Austria and Switzerland. This is especially so in the very north of the country.
The Prackfolehof, the name of which reflects the German heritage of the Trentino Alto Adige region, effortlessly fuses this scenic element with traditional Italian rural traditions. In fact, the Prackfolehof is a working farm in its own right, located 600 meters above sea level in a surprisingly sunny and sheltered position, which is ideal for cultivating fruits and high quality wine.
The lucky upshot of this all is a rural retreat where you can enjoy genuine hospitality, breathtaking landscapes and an enjoyment of nature that take in the heights of the Dolomites and valleys of the Sciliar/Schlern nature reserves. So it should come as no surprise that this region has been made a UNESCO world heritage area.
A stay at the Prackfolehof means choosing from three beautiful vacation apartments with a terrace or balcony. To give them an added cultural twist (nature and culture are not mutually exclusive)  each of the apartments are dedicated/themed to one of the tales of the Grimm Brothers: Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Frog King.
Oh, we almost forgot the Schlosshof or “castle manor” – a house that can take up to 6 people and which fully deserves its name, as it boasts fantastic views of the surrounding mountains of South Tyrol.
You may not get full luxury either at the “Castle Manor” or “Prackfolehof” but comfort comes as standard in both types of accommodation as does the simple good taste of owners. They know they have something special in the Prackfolehof if what you are looking for a rural paradise by the mountains.
As with any working farm worthy of the name, the Prackfolerhof has an almost endless list of natural products for sale in its own farmers shop. Be prepared to return home with heavier suitcases than when you arrived with jams (raspberry, strawberry, apricot…), wines and all sorts of sweet smelling herbs.
