The Romagnelli family has many years of experience in the hospitality business, so they know a thing or two about how to welcome guests with warmth and hospitality. Now add into the mix their elegant, extremely well-located hotel behind St Mark’s Square, in one of the city’s most elegant streets and you have all the ingredients for a memorable stay in Venice.
The hotel we are talking about is none other than the Hotel Flora, a 17th-century "palazzo" that was once a School of Painting frequented by great Venetian artists. Folklore also has it that the next door Palazzo Conrarini Fasa was the home of Desdemona, the heroine of Shakespeare’s Othello, so tradition and history go side by side here.
Yet despite its wonderful location and history, it is definitely not a "touristy" or overpriced accommodation, particularly when we consider the city we are in and the specific location. In fact, the Hotel Flora is an oasis of peace that concentrates on simply treating guests with good grace and comfort within an historical ambience. Decoration, of course, can not be anything other than the Liberty Venetian style with period furniture from the late 16th century onwards providing reserved sophistication. And though some rooms may be on the smallish side, even that’s not a criticism on our part.
They are very well put together and furnished in an individual style with a private bath, in-room safe, TV, plug internet connection and WI-FI, as well as individually controlled air-conditioning and heating.
In short, the Hotel Flora is an excellent starting point from which to let Venice weave its magic on you, but it's our bet that you will also fall for the Hotel Flora, so don’t be surprised if you wish to extend your stay here for that extra day or two. There, we’ve told you so.
