Deep in the heart of the beautiful Cape Winelands, Babylonstoren opens its gates to a piece of paradise. Founded in 1692 and being one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms in the region, it combines tradition and modern farming methods. The core of the farm, the magnificent garden, is laid out over 3,5 hectares and grows over 300 plants, all edible or with medicinal value. It is designed by french architect Patrice Taravella and inspired by the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon.
Guests will reside in historic and renovated luxury workers' cottages, now elegant apartments, with traditional elements like dark wood, fireplace and thick walls, modern furniture from international design brands, underfloor heating, free WiFi, and fully equipped kitchen, where you can cook with your self harvested vegetables. Breakfast is served every morning made from fresh on-site produced ingredients like vegetables, berries, eggs and honey from the farm own chicken and bees.
Enjoy the big outdoor pool, sun terrace and the wide view over the near mountains. Explore the area by bike or have a hike in the vast fields and forests – the staff will pack you a delicious lunch for that – or simply enjoy the big variety of Spa treatments, like Hammam cleansing rituals, massages or facial and beauty treatments, using all organic, natural products. Babylonstoren also produces their own high quality wines. Enjoy them in their wine tasting room and become a member of the the Babylonstoren Wine Club.
The farm has two restaurants, using freshly picked, seasonal products from the Garden. The Babel restaurant will serve you elegant, healthy dinners, following a “from farm to fork” philosophy, treating the food with extra care. The Greenhouse cafe offers fresh salads, smoothies and wood-fired oven bread in a working greenhouse, where exotic plants like pineapples, dragon fruit and vanilla are grown.
Over and over, Babylonstoren is filled with wonders, from a stream running through the flower-bursting meadows, large areas of fruit trees, ducks and chickens, gardening workshops, bees for pollinating, a wheat barn, best service and Spa, perfect location overlooking the majestic mountains – all that makes Babylonstoren probably the most special location you can find for your stay in Cape Town.
