Welcome to The Granite House. No, it’s not near the Algarve’s wonderful beaches—you’ll need to drive 40 minutes to reach them. But if you love authentic, tranquil places surrounded by breathtaking nature, this is the perfect spot for you.
Set on an estate atop a plateau, The Granite House is part of a complex of three independent houses. Yours is a charming stone house with beautiful views.
Designed for couples seeking privacy, the house can accommodate up to four people, though children are only welcome from the age of 12, as the place is intended exclusively for adults.
The interior design is understated and refined. On the ground floor, you’ll find a modern, well-equipped kitchen, an elegant bathroom with plaster walls, and a living room featuring the iconic 1976 Nodo chairs designed by Mauro Pasquinelli. The Rock sofa by Gerard van den Berg adds a touch of design, while the vintage Moon lamp, attributed to Verner Panton, brings an artistic and sophisticated atmosphere. In front of the door, a Japanese futon serves as a relaxing nook and can be used as an extra bed if four guests are staying.
Ascending the solid oak staircase, the mezzanine leads to a bedroom with a pitched ceiling, where a king-size bed and a practical storage area ensure both comfort and spaciousness.
To guarantee maximum comfort in any season, the house is equipped with underfloor heating and a cozy wood-burning stove for winter, as well as air conditioning on both levels for warmer days.
The outdoor area invites you to enjoy the surroundings with a private 3m x 2m plunge pool and an elegant wooden deck, the perfect spot to unwind. Sun loungers and parasols are set up so you can take in an unforgettable sunset, with the soothing sounds of nature as your backdrop.
Built with natural stone and surrounded by lush vegetation, the house is ideal for relaxing in the open air. Nearby, you can explore the charm of local markets, where producers offer fresh fruits, artisanal cheeses, and regional wines. Not far away, the golden beaches and dramatic cliffs of the Atlantic coast invite you to days of exploration and relaxation.
At The Granite House, well-being and sustainability go hand in hand. Guests can enjoy eco-friendly bath products from 8950 Cosmética, a local brand committed to natural ingredients and free of microplastics. The house also features an aromatic herb garden and an orchard with lemons, oranges, and the unique Monchique pear apple, alongside century-old vineyards. For the more adventurous, the surrounding hiking and cycling trails provide an opportunity to discover unforgettable landscapes.
The Serra de Monchique is a vast range of steep, wooded hills and valleys stretching across the northern Algarve and into southern Alentejo. The town of Monchique is small and unpretentious, a hillside cascade of white houses surrounding a central church. To the east and west, villages are few and insignificant, while hamlets are numerous yet barely noticeable. Large parts of the Serra are nearly uninhabited. Its highest peaks are not particularly tall: Foia rises to 902 metres, and Picota to 773, both accessible on foot or by car to take in the stunning views.
