This country house is set in unspoilt countryside on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, in a strategic position right in the centre of the Val di Noto region of southern Sicily. The stunning masseria, known as Rifugio Lanzagallo, derives its name from the Italian word for "refuge", being a welcoming yet modern holiday home that incorporates the fascinating historical features of the original building. You arrive at the hotel via a picturesque road that winds through carob and olive trees, and upon arrival, you are greeted with limestone buildings, filled with wooden beams, arches, and courtyards surrounded by low walls that create a cosy atmosphere.
The first building, called "Stallone," is where the reception and breakfast room are, with sophisticated, evocative, and modern architecture. The lounge area's courtyard leads to the pool area, with a large garden full of aromatic plants, flowers, and ancient trees. The saltwater pool has views of the sea and the open horizon. To the right are 5 cosy and spacious rooms, each with a unique character: white, black, natural stone, wood, and iron accessories, and large windows that open like paintings of the landscape.
The common areas are also decorated in a similar style, with ceramic pots, woven baskets, and local artwork adorning the walls. The living room is immense with a fireplace surrounded by comfortable sofas to relax in after visiting the surroundings. There are many spaces where you can take advantage of total privacy in the house. There is also an outdoor kitchen and a seating area where you can enjoy a meal under a pergola and a carob tree.
The breakfast varies every day to offer you different Sicilian flavours, including a variety of sweet and savoury options, such as homemade cakes, local fruits, bread made from local wheat flour, typical sausages from the area, cannoli filled with sweet ricotta, yogurt with pistachio cream, and mokka coffee.
Rifugio Lanzagallo is the perfect base for adventurers who are looking for stunning natural landscapes and outdoor activities. The options for day trips are endless, such as Noto, Syracuse, Marzamemi, Vendicari or Cava Grande, Ispica, Modica, Scicli, and Ragusa. Mount Etna and the historic Valley of the Temples of Agrigento are also within reach.
Just 8 km from Rifugio Lanzagallo is one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, Santa Maria del Focallo. This paradise of golden sand is bordered by trees and is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.
For those who prefer to explore nature, there are plenty of options. There are routes that can be walked or cycled in beautiful hills and valleys. You can also go horse riding, with guided tours that offer a more intimate view of the landscape. Golf enthusiasts will find their paradise at Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, just an hour's drive away.
Children are certainly welcome, but please note that there are no cots or extra beds available, and the pool is not fenced, so constant supervision by parents is required.
