Luxembourg as a Destination

Luxembourg City is the capital of the only Grand Duchy in the world and home to a diverse range of sights and people. Here you’ll find theatre, museums, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, architectural masterpieces and Michelin-rated gastronomy. We have searched for the most beautiful places to stay so that you don’t have to.

What to see and do

The highlight of the city is, without a doubt, its Old City, founded in 963 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A legendary fortress carved from rock that stands above the whole city as a beacon. The Grand-Ducal palace is open to the public during summer so that you can appreciate its majestic interior and ceremonial rooms, however you can wonder at its beautiful 16th century Flemish Renaissance style façade all year round. Visit the Notre-Dame cathedral to witness how the 17th century rood screen contrasts with the 20th century windows. The city is also full of museums, ranging from the Luxembourg City History Museum and National Museum of History and Art, to more modern museums, such as the Casino Luxembourg Forum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean MUDAM. You’ll also find operas, musicals, dance shows, and plays in multiple languages in the Grand Théâtre.
