The Butterflies

"The Butterflies" owes its beautiful name to the wings of the roof, which have the same angle as the wings of a butterfly. As the first house in the world with a hydraulic roof and several awards for its ecological awareness, this place is definitely something special.

The luxury accommodation consists of two buildings set in 10 hectares of olive groves and woods on the nearest hills to Lucca, 200 metres above the city. The main building is called "Villa Farfalla" and its annex "Villetta Farfallina". Both are true jewels of contemporary architecture and technology, nestled in the Tuscan countryside. Each room is furnished with unique artistic details and conveys a feeling of luxury and harmony. Every lamp, sculpture and piece of furniture has been designed or carefully selected by the owners of the building, who are talented architects and artists. Each unit provides space for up to 6 people (extra beds available). If you are a big group of people you can also rent both units together. 

The entire property is in total harmony with the omnipresent nature and offers an incomparable panoramic view of Lucca. The interior spaces are formed around a spectacular staircase, depicted as a shimmering yellow evening gown. The villas are spread over three floors and offer a fully equipped open style kitchen, living and dining area, three bedrooms and a bathroom on the lower level and a master bedroom with bathroom and living room on the upper level. There are two private patio areas where you can dine al fresco or spend time with friends. However, probably the most impressive area of the Villetta Farfallina is the terrace with heated and illuminated Jacuzzi, from which you have a fantastic view of the Italian countryside. The roof terrace provides the uniquely magical feeling of literally sleeping under the stars.

A private swimming pool with an area of 70 sqm and 16 m in length is the highlight of the entire property. It offers a panoramic view of the city and Lucca and is a unique experience both by day and by night. In high season, the pool is shared with the owner. 

This luxury villa was awarded as one of the most ecological and exceptional houses in Italy by the TV channel "NationalGeographic" in "Case piu verde d'Italia". It also won the architecture prize "EXPO STONE AWARD 2015" together with the "FREEDOM TOWER WORLD TRADE CENTER" in New York and the "BRIDGE TOWER" in London.
