Palacete Chafariz del Rei

To describe the Chafariz del Rey is not easy. It is not a boutique hotel, nor a bed and breakfast, but also not a pure luxury hotel. It is a bit of a mixture of all three: refined, informal, comfortable and beautiful. The building itself is somewhat eclectic, combining different styles though in a coherent way: neo-arab, neo-baroque, neo-classic with contemporary elements interweaving harmonically. It is a revival of the romantic spirit that came up in the mid XX century. The name "chafariz" derives from the old fountain once located in front of it. This one was richly ornamented and had six outflows.

The small palace is located in the Lisbon borough of Alfama facing the Tejo River. Each one of its six rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated with unique pieces. The breakfast can be taken anytime. Just choose between one of the many saloons. Besides other delicacies, it includes smoked salmon, homemade brioche, exotic fruit salads and a variety of pies, all served on fine porcelain. The room on the last floor is the most beautiful as it has the full view both over the Tejo bay as well as the historic quarters of the Alfama. Do note however that this historic building does not have an elevator and there are 4 stories to climb. The garden provides the perfect escape to relax from the busy city life or to have a drink at the end of the day.
