Not easy to find, but not easy to forget either. What we mean by the first part of our statement is that although the small boutique bed and breakfast Casa das Janelas com Vista is located in Bairro Alto, one of Lisbon’s most emblematic, central and liveliest areas (especially at night), you can easily miss it, tucked away as it is in a quiet little side street just wide enough to let a car past.
For many people this is the real Lisbon, a sort of sexy concoction of “shabby chic” buildings all huddled together in a warren of single car wide streets and steep hills. Picturesque it certainly is, but if you’re not careful you can easily pass the Casa das Janelas com Vista without a second glance as it is pretty discreet on the outside. But once inside it’s a different story with the trendy boutique nature of the Casa das Janelas com Vista immediately hitting you in the face.
The common areas combine no end of contemporary and classic elements to perfection, for example, with modern designer chairs, sofas and lamps competing with an old yellow iron table a velvet chaise longue and old armchair for our attention. That’s just the entrance and check-in area. Rooms (12 double rooms, 6 of which can be combined to make 3 family suites) are just as imaginative and made up of many small details that all together add up to a great experience.
Now, the name of this accommodation also gives the game away as to one of its other plus points: Casa das Janelas com Vista means “the House of Windows with Views”. In short, some of the rooms have stupendous vistas over Bairro Alto itself with its orange coloured rooftops and the Tagus River itself, which puts most of Europe’s capital rivers to shame in terms of size and breadth.
And so we come to the second part of our initial phrase. Given the location, the lovely decoration, wonderful city views and, we almost forgot, the gracious and considerate staff, some will want to stay on a few days longer. In other words: it will be an unforgettable experience.
Casa das Janelas proved an excellent choice. The young staff are attentive and sweet; the breakfast more than delicious; the place well-located. We had a top floor room, which was quiet and spacious. The usual small things are missing, e.g., limited hooks to hang your towels; no place to set your toiletries or luggage. Overall we were happy with this bed and breakfast and would return.

Great location where it is close to hot spots but also far enough away that it is still quiet and private at night. Very kind and accommodating staff with super cute lobby area.

When entering the hotel you feel immediately welcomed and at home. Painted in warm, earthy colors, the breakfast room downstairs decorated in industrial style invites to get together with other travelers - if you want. The breakfast serves healthy food and most delicious home baked cakes. The staff is friendly and helps with everything you need. Giving directions, finding a friendly driver, getting tickets for a soccer match. The location is very calm which must be rare for Lisbon. If I travel to Lisbon again I will definitely stay again at the Casa de Janelas.

We stayed in Lisbon for a few days, this very exciting and lively city.
The hotel Casas das Janelas Com Vista was like a oasis in this busy place.
The service was very helpful and attentive. Breakfast is great in a big living room.
We always felt a little bit like coming home at the end of the day.

We stayed 1 night and is was perfect. As it was a last minute booking we got the last room available that didn’t have aircon and was a little noisy.
Otherwise we loved the hotel, the quirky and trendy decor with beautiful furniture and gorgeous blankets.
The young staff were helpful and accommodating for an early morning checkout and also to mention the breakfast was incredible! A good stay.

We are very fond of Casa. It is situated in the less touristic part of Bairro Alto. The House is beautiful, the rooms comfortable. Lovely breakfast. And first of all: the young staff is so friendly and helpfull. We are planning to return.

This hotel is adorable, clean, and very inviting. The ambience is calm and relaxing, and the people working are very helpful. There is always someone to ask questions or make phone calls for you. Breakfast is delicious with fresh fruits, breads, eggs and wonderful coffee. I was so pleased with the place physically but also with the helpful and warm people working.

We stayed 9 nights and were very sad to have to leave to go home. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and always present but not intrusive. Our room had a great view of the city. The daily breakfasts (included) fortified us for long days of walking and exploring. The location, in the middle of Bairro Alto, was a major factor in our enjoying Lisbon. We will certainly stay there again!

Room had such a nice feel to it, not big but spacious with high ceiling, light and simply furnished with an authentic feel. We had a great view too. Friendly and helpful staff, accommodating to people who turn up to breakfast far too late and want to take a tray up to their room :)
Location central but was quiet in the night
