What to do in Kefalonia. Our favourite cities, towns and accommodations in Kefalonia
Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian archipelago, has a rich history influenced by civilisations such as the Byzantines, Ottomans, Venetians, and even Napoleon and the British Empire. These cultures have left a visible mark on the architecture and culture of the island, which has the most paradisiacal beaches per square kilometre in all of Greece. White sandy beaches and turquoise blue waters, as well as picturesque pebble coves and crystal clear waters. You can also find lush forests such as the majestic Mount Ainos National Park, the highest mountain in the Ionian archipelago.
With a population of around 45,000, mainly concentrated in Argostoli, its capital and main port, Kefalonia's economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism.
Villages such as Fiskardo and Assos offer an authentic immersion into island life.
