Hotel The Vine
Hotel Type: Boutique Hotel
Environment: City
Number of Rooms: 79
Style: Design
We love the concept of this divine hotel, sorry we mean the Vine Hotel, and on the scale of one to ten in hipness, we’d say it rates a 12!
This is a place of pure sophistication but with simplicity and soul. Just look at the pictures to see what we mean about sophistication and uber cool. Still, this would all be for nothing without service or style, but even here the Vine Hotel ranks highly and does justice to its 5 star ranking.
Mind you, its credentials are impeccable. Firstly, it was designed by a world famous architect (Ricardo Bolfill) and furnished by an award-winning avant-guard designer (Andrade Silva).
Secondly, the in-house UVA restaurant is a truly special place to eat and matches the sophistication of the hotel. This is also unsurprising as the head chef is 3 Michelin star chef Antoine Westermann, who fuses a blend of French and local cuisine to delicious perfection.
Any more aces up the sleeve? Well there’s the Vine Spa for starters, a luxurious retreat specializing in vinotherapy, a wellness therapy where the pips and pulp of the grapes used from winemaking are rubbed into the skin (yes, we didn't know that existed either, but one of its effects is to slow down the ageing process of the skin). The top floor also boasts a 360º Bar located, where the view of Madeira spreads out before your eyes.
Vine Hotel may not be the cheapest place in town (and that goes for the restaurant) but it sure is one of the most special.
Rooms: Another nice little touch is that all room are locates over foor floors, with each floor being dedicated to one of the four Seasons of the year and the corresponding colour of the Madeiran Vinyards.
On the 2nd floor the rooms are the green of SPRING, on the 3rd floor we have the purple of SUMMER, on the 4th floor we have the grey of WINTER and finally on the 5th floor are the have shades of AUTUMNAL Brown.

Gourmet & Wine
Throughout the year and in collaboration with leading wine makers and guest speakers, The Vine organizes unique wine and food tasting events. Due to popular demand we always host at least one or two events during the grape harvest season from September to October, however space is limited so if interested, we recommend to book as soon as the event dates are published via our newsletter and other media channels.
Workshops
Looking for a learning experience? The Vine is always searching for opportunities to help you help yourself. Sharpen your culinary skills and impress your friends, get some professional advice on how to use your camera to its potential and capture all those memorable experiences, or even find out how to apply make-up like a pro with the guidance of an international cosmetics brand.
Due to the select nature of workshops, their success is directly related to their demand, so whatever your interest, be it culinary, photography, cosmetics, art, health or other, let us know so that we can help make it happen for you.
Madeira
Madeira is not just a paradise of exotic flora and fauna with amazing landscapes that take your breath away, it also enjoys one of the most temperate climates in the world. With summers averaging a comfortable maximum of 25º and the winters, a low of 17º, there is always something special to experience, whether the flower festival in spring, the giant Blue Marlin in the summer, the wine harvest in the autumn or the spectacular fireworks display at the end of the year.
More than just a destination for sun and sea, Madeira is an island steeped in culture and tradition with a host of museums and galleries right in the heart of Funchal. However Madeira also embraces the future and has become quite contemporary in many areas, not just in the more recent hotels, restaurants and bars, but also in modern art and most noticeably at the Centre of Art - Casa das Mudas
