Originally a 19th century palace, the Carlton has now been restored to its former architectural glory to become a superb five star hotel – certainly one of the finest in Lisbon, if not Portugal. The construction of the main building with its elaborate French style architecture is striking and warrants classification as a "National Monument”.
The hotel complex itself is comprised of the Palace, reserved for the public and social areas (Reception, bar, restaurant and function rooms) together with two separate newly built guest room wings in the beautiful surrounding grounds. These are connected to the main building by way of glass corridors that enables the visitor to enjoy the splendour of the gardens and superb views of the city, river Tagus and Atlantic Ocean.
The Carlton also has a magnificent consecrated chapel suitable for weddings and baptisms – with seating for up to 40 people. All this in a very tranquil part of Lisbon and with easy access to the centre.
