North Holland

People often forget that Holland is not an official title of the country.  The official name is, of course, the “Netherlands". Holland takes in the name of two important regions - North and South Holland.

The largest city in North Holland is Amsterdam, but curiously the official capital is Haarlem.

History and water here go together like a hand in glove. It is largely surrounded by the North Sea and IJssel Lake, which allows for all varieties of water sports. The coast line also even offer trendy beaches.

Of course, if its culture and history you want, just head down to Haarlem. This city of 150,000 inhabitants is widely recognized as a great shopping city and really be considered on any trip or itinerary to the Netherlands. After all, it is only some 2o km from Amsterdam itself
