La Borie de L'Aubrac
Hotel Type: Bed & Breakfast
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 5
Style: Contemporary
Though the La Borie de l’Aubrac is not too far away from the cute little town of Nasbinals (4 km) and is part of the St James route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, it seems to be a million miles from anywhere – 1,200 metres above sea and alone amidst the stunningly the beautiful Aubrac countryside.
The 360 degree panorama it affords does not include a single building and you are more likely to get a glimpse of the Aubrac cattle than a fellow human being. So don’t expect revelry and party atmosphere.
Do expect, however, an inspirational place to reconnect with nature and an exceptional hideaway, plus extreme kindness and hospitality from the owners Pat and Laurent.
What’s more despite this bucolic rural setting, La Borie de l’Aubrac is actually a rather sophisticated affair, not some dowdy bed & breakfast with torn curtains and stained carpets.
In fact, the operative word here is modernity and front line tech – from the common areas to the five large individually decorated bedrooms. It provides rural bliss with CD players and mini bars included, so to speak.
Given the location, eating out requires more than a simple walk and though there is no restaurant as such, meals can be ordered 24 hours in advance. Given the little bit of Hideaway Heaven Pat and Laurent have created here, it’s worth trying out. You’ll enjoy the local specialties and wine.
A true hidden gem that seems to be in the middle of nowhere but it is still within easy reach of some great Lozere countryside and towns.

Aubrac
Aubrac is an interesting region made up of wide open spaces. One where culture and traditions are still important.
A region made for hiking, long walks (waterfalls of Deroc; pilgrim route of Saint James of Compostela; the Big Lakes), heritage (Nasbinal Church; the Marchastel Bridge; the Baume Castle; Domerie de l´Aubrac), leisure (biking; skiing; horse riding; fishing), and gastronomy (aligot; fouace; Laguiole cheeses; Aubrac meats...).
Well worth exploring.
